SHREM'S CLUB BIZARRE INTRODUCING: "INTRODUCTION" - CREEP feat. Planningtorock

I was thrilled to find out the Brooklyn based witch house pioneers CREEP have just announced some rather promising details on "Echoes", their most anticipating full-length debut album to drop 13th August. Lauren Dillard and Lauren Flax continue their extraordinary conceptual musical journey by inviting different vocalists for each of the songs on the album, just like they did with the staggering series of singles that were released so far: "Days" with Romy Madley Croft from The XX, "You" with Nina Sky, "Animals" with Holly Miranda and "Call Her" with Tricky and Alejandra de la Deheza. The introduction to "Echoes" comes with aptly titled opening track "Introduction" featuring the uncompromising Planningtorock, CREEP's possibly darkest moment to date. A truly fascinating act and with the increasing excitement around them since 2010 I am beside myself thinking about this record to be finally out.

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "CIRCLES AND TRIANGLES" /// "BIRTHDAY" [Sugarcubes Cover] - Alison Valentine

The alternative pop sensation that is Alison Valentine has just sprinkled some of her magic sounds onto to the latest in the series of the Kitsuné compilations "America 2". Classically trained Alison Valentine crafts feminine laptop pop just like the delectable and tropical “Circles and Triangles” we read on the label's page. "America 2" also features tracks by Toro Y Moi, Gigamesh and Theophilus London among others. Valentine's track however became an instant favourite during the first listen to the record. and the singing florist (!) has also recently offered this sublime cover of The Sugarcubes' cult "Birthday" on her Soundcloud. The summer is so around the corner, enjoy!

CHOON OF THE DAY: "AYDIN" - Discodeine feat. Kevin Parker

I enjoyed immensely the electro psychedelic ride I was just taken for by Discodeine's new single featuring Tame Impala's Kevin Parker. "Aydin" follows the steps of "Synchronize" (with Jarvis Cocker) and "Singular" (with Matias Aguyao), two other collaborative efforts from the French duo fronted by indie vocalists which worked bizarrely well on the European dancefloors. Weird club music is what messieurs Pilooski and Pentile are all about. Their Facebook page is worth checking out for their peculiar selection of interests and almost encyclopedic list of inspirations. "Aydin" doesn't sound quite like anything that I heard in 2013 so far. Out now via DIRTY.

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "AZURA" - 808 State feat. Lou Rhodes /// "HUMANITY" - A Guy Called Gerald feat. Lou Rhodes

Back in the second half of the 1990's I got a little bit obsessed with Lamb and its vocalist Lou Rhodes. Apart from Lamb's first two albums which I worship until today, I've been also admiring the singer's sonic excursions into trip-hop and jungle sounds when collaborating with the legendary 808 State and A Guy Called Gerald. The following two recordings stood the test of time quite smoothly in my humble opinion.

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "SAD EYES (Invisibles Remix)" /// "AFFECTION" [Video] - Crystal Castles

The video for "Affection", one of Crystal Castles' most accomplished songs to date, has just premiered. In addition the Canadian electro force of a duo continues to treat their fans to a string of excellent remixes available as free downloads on their Soundcloud. I found this new mix of "Sad Eyes" by Alex Invisibles particularly impressive.

SHREM'S FUTURE ANTHEMS: "DONELL" - Joy Orbison

I haven't really stopped listening to this brand new, surprisingly soulful house gem by the mighty Joy Orbison since my always reliable muso friend Piotrek from No Snobs Allowed introduced me to it this week. We'll be both selecting some juicy weekend tunes this evening in The Workman's Club from 10pm for the April edition of "Glider" and I'd say this should shake the dancefloor quite well. The track includes samples the vocals from Donell Jones' 1999 R'N'B single "U Know What's Up" (check out the original video below). Joy Orbison, the man behind the astonishing "Hyph Mngo" is giving away the new single for free on his Soundcloud. CHOON!

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "CREAM" - Mandola Jayebe /// "DIDN'T CHA KNOW" - Erykah Badu

I came across this smooth gem by Mandola Jayebe the other day. Not sure whether it was its sleek production, superb sampling or the oldskool feel of it that blew me away so much, it doesn't happen that often with any of the current Hip-Hop artists... This promising Texas based rapper generously offers his music for free on his Bandcamp. The tracks borrows from Tarika Blue's "Dreamflower" the very same recording which appealed to the queen Erykah Badu in 2000 when she dropped her magnificent "Didn't Cha Know" - the single I cherish up to this day as her finest work to date. Here are both of them back to back sounding all sexy and velvet.

SHREM'S BIGGIES BUT GOODIES BASKET: "LOVE... THY WILL BE DONE" - Jessie Ware [Martika Cover]

The beautiful Jessie Ware keeps spoiling us. Following the release of "Imagine It Was Us", one of this year's biggest singles so far, we were just treated to this subtle cover of Martika's epic "Love... Thy Will Be Done" written by Prince in 1991. A great opportunity to remind ourselves of that early 90's pop masterpiece as well...

CHOON OF THE DAY: "IN THE CREW OF TEA TIME" - Sébastien Tellier & Caroline Polachek

In celebration of Record Store Day, Record Makers released an exclusive 7-inch by Sébastien Tellier & Caroline Polachek of Chairlift. It features a collaborative sonically arousing song called "In The Crew Of Tea Time" which was recorded last year in Paris.
"Sébastien had met Caroline when Chairlift opened for his 2009 "Sexuality" US tour, and they always wanted to record a song together since then. Here it comes !"

CHOON OF THE DAY: "ROCK WITH U" - Hard Ton + Eliot Remix [Janet Jackson Cover]

The indestructible Hard Ton graced us with a brand new EP "Food For Love". The cover version of Janet Jackson's 2008 "Rock With U" stole my heart already when introduced in one of Hard Ton's mixes on their sonically multi-vibrant and flamboyant Soundcloud. We're now also receiving a delicious oldskool 1990's remix treatment of the track by the vintage clubland maestro ELIOT (remember his astonishing work on Jessica 6's "Prisoner Of Love"?). Download it for free for a limited time only, until this Wednesday. Be quick, and share the love ♥♥♥

SHREM'S WORLDLY DELIGHTS: "Paixão" + "Volta P'ra Mim" - Heróis Do Mar

I will probably never get tired of discovering 1980's music. Especially the bands I would have never heard of if not for my muso friends from different parts of the world recommending their local vintage treasures to me. It was the case with this cult Portuguese band Heróis Do Mar whom I found so much about this week. Their early 80's significant mix of pop and nu romantic vibes with the subtle reminiscences of disco and punk is right up my street.

SHREM'S CLUB BIZARRE INTRODUCING: "THE HEAT" + "ALIEN BABIES" - Easter

EASTER are Max Boss and Stine Omar Midtsæter. They're based in Berlin. They make minimal electro. They're fearless. They're brazen. They're unique. My latest obsession, literally since yesterday! Both tracks are taken off their self-released album "The Softest Hard". I am beyond intrigued.

[Thank you Alexander for the hint!]

Even more exciting times ahead for all Disclosure devotees! First of all the release date for their debut album is finally set, "Settle" is out 3rd June via PMR Records and is shaping to be one of the biggest dance records in a rather long while. The anticipation around it has been gradually building up through the staggering run of their sensational singles "What's In Your Head", "Boiling", "Control" and the massively popular top 10 hits "Latch" and "White Noise" with AlunaGeorge. The Lawrence brothers also announced their UK Tour dates via their website and they're spoiling us with one more treat, a brand new fresh anthem "You & Me".

CHOON OF THE DAY: "LOST IN TIME" - Azari & III + Jori Hulkkonen & VCO Remixes

Dinamo Azari, Alixander III, Starving Yet Full and Fritz Helder, the indestructible Canadian house quartet, are just about to complete their 2 year long worldwide promotion of their spectacular self-titled debut album by releasing the final single "Lost In Time". A stand-out track from the very first listen, it wasn't a surprise but more a hope the tune would eventually get its well deserved individual release. Delectable beats, slick production and divalicious vocals dripping with soul and funk with a pinch of mystery and darkness. This recipe for a dancefloor anthem Azari & III stylee was proven on numerous occasions before. I am particularly excited the single comes with a remix by one of my most beloved djs and producers, Finnish dance scene's darling Jori Hulkkonen. Just ace!

SHREM'S BIGGIES BUT GOODIES BASKET: "BACK 2 THE WILD" - Basement Jaxx

Oh how much have we missed Basement Jaxx!!! European dance scene just sounds so much poorer when the London duo is on their break. The wait is over however and we've just been attacked by their signature sonic hybrid of exotic world grooves, monstrously delicious house beats, hyper energy, chaotic production, that obligatory pinch of musical anarchy and good old-fashioned fun. "Back 2 The Wild" sees Basement Jaxx boys returning in top form. Hope we get even more spoiled now with some new album and hopefully new tour announcements as well. The video is an absolute feats for all the kitsch connoisseurs like myself.
