CHOONS OF THE DAY: "CONTROL" [Video] + "The Face" [ep] - Disclosure feat. Ria Ritchie

One of the most talented British producers, Disclosure, whom I have been praising quite persistently since their omnipresent remix of Jessie Ware's unbelievable "Running", have also just become responsible for one of this year's hottest EP's - "The Face". Here's a reminder of its juicy content plus the boys' brand new video for the ultra-funky "Control" featuring Miss Ria Ritchie.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "RUSSIAN ATTRACTIONS" - Sébastien Tellier

From day one when I heard "My God is Blue" I just knew "Russian Attractions" was going to be the next single from Monsieur Tellier's new conceptual baby.  Following the sensational and brazen "Cochon Ville" here comes another extraordinary track from the one and only maestro of bonkers and divine sounds. Voilà!!!

CHOON OF THE DAY: "TEEN NEED" - New Look + CREEP & Hunter/Game Remixes

New Look's third single from their dazzling self-titled debut album "Teen Need" gets a first-class remix treatment. Creep's esoteric and lush rendition of the track (the production!!!) could easily be one of those rare occasions when a remix out-does the original version... The second mix by Hunter/Game (the Hunter gets captured by the Game?) transfers the song to the late saturday night dancefloor in the lounge area ;-) Really can't wait for album no 2 from the gifted Canadians.

Then we have the enigmatic Popular Computer with his latest single "POP HeART" coming from his fresh LP "Lite" which also includes the astonishing "Lointain". A double dose of French Touch!

SHREM'S LIST OBSESSION: Top 10 Favourite Yukimi Nagano Guest Appearances

Little Dragon were on my radar for a good few years now. Growing artistically with every next release, the Swedish quartet has now a very solid spot among the most creative and unique bands of the current indie & electronic scene. Seeing them live last week at Lovebox Festival in London (one of the highlights of the whole 3 day long event) proved again their astonishing live-performance capability. I can't praise them enough! One of the most precious aspects of their originality lies in Yukimi Nagano's incomparable vocals. Her diversity, versatility and unlikeness as a vocalist was an inspiration for this episode of my "List Obsession". Here's a carefully cherry-picked top 10 of Miss Nagano's features in non Little Dragon recordings. As an admirably generous singer, she guest appeared on numerous releases of an eclectic kind. Have a look...

SHREM'S EXCLUSIVE: PERFECT PARTY PLAYLIST VOL. 5 by Kali (Steed Lord)

So here it is another delicious chapter in my series of exclusive "Perfect Party Playlists" this time kindly cherry-picked by Steed Lord's vocalist Kali - the owner of one of the most exquisite female voices of the current dance scene. I am beyond happy to have you on board Miss Kali!

BIO:
Svala Björgvins is a vocal diva extraordinaire, an electro fashionista, killer pop song-writer and one third of the Reykjavík founded synth-pop institution that is Steed Lord. It's a music and art collective from Iceland creating emotional electronic synthpop music and experimental visual art. Having created their own music videos and fashion films to go with their music, their creative passion is unstoppable as they live on the frontiers of pure creativity and music making with their amazing and energetic live performances, filmmaking, photography, fashion design, graphic design and other visual mediums. Drawing their musical inspiration from everything from disco to 80's pop to early house music, they have managed to create a world of their own that they call New Crack City where they create their music and art.
This 100% DIY project released two mind-blowing albums so far, 2008's "Truth Serum" followed by "Heart II Heart" in 2010. The flamboyant trio is currently in the studio putting the final touches to their long anticipated 3rd album. Their distinctive style both musically and visually makes them one of the most exciting electronic acts out there.

PERFECT PARTY PLAYLIST by Kali (Steed Lord):

1. Mercury feat. Robert Owens "Candlelight" - I just adore this song, it's sad but beautiful and it makes me wanna dance. I think this is one of the best songs this year. Soulful and powerful. Amazing vocals.

Mercury - Candlelight feat. Robert Owens by Mercury (Switzerland)

2. Legend "Devil In Me (Steed Lord Remix)" - Legend is an amazing icelandic electronic band. We remixed this great song that they wrote and is from their debut album Fearless. The lyrics and melody are pure perfection. And Krummi's vocals are stunning. Legend is an up and coming band and people need to get familiar with their music. If you wanna listen to amazing music you have to get into Legend. One of the best albums this year.

Legend - Devil In Me (Steed Lord Remix) by Steed Lord

3. INXS "I Need You Tonight" - I've been a fan of them since forever. And this song is a classic. It's just so good. Goosebumps every time I listen to it. Michael's vocals are so sexy and there's so much quality there. He is missed. This tune is just a first class pop song. Love it. Adore it.

4. Stevie Nicks "Stand Back" - I'm a huge Stevie fan. She can do no wrong in my book. She worked with Prince on this song. It stands the test of time and is still as fresh as ever. Love the words and her vocals and the sound. Epic comes to mind when I listen to it. Power and love and lust.

5. Prince "I Would Die 4 U" - Prince is someone that I adore, I always have and always will. This song is one of the best pop songs ever written in my opinion. It's a great dance track and it's still modern and the way he delivers the words. So good. I've seen Prince perform live twice and it was mindblowing. The amount of talent in this man is totally mindboggling. He's a genius. One of the greats.

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "THUNDERBOLT (King Cannibal Remix) /// "HOLLOW (Current Value Remix)" - Björk

I adore Björk's series of Biophilia Remixes, they spread even more magic around this whole otherworldly project of hers. While waiting for the 6th out of the 8 singles I thought it'd be interesting to play some of the mix efforts we have received so far. Here are two unbelievable renditions of "Thunderbolt" by King Cannibal and "Hollow" by German's pioneer of dark and experimental drum'n'bass Current Value. This is how Miss Guðmundsdóttir recently described Current Value in her interview for Guardian: "A maker of beats with huge amounts of energy. Direct! He was recommended to me. Each noise has a lot of energy. Where is he getting it from? His food? If drum'n'bass is good, it still inspires me."

CHOONS OF THE DAY: "YOUR LOVE AIN'T FAIR" [Video] + "WITCHES OF AGNESI" - Simian Mobile Disco

Here comes yet another visual and sonic feast from the talented Londoners. "Your Love Ain't Fair" caught my attention almost instantly the first time I listened to Simian Mobile Disco's latest effort "Unpatterns". The track has just been chosen as the duo's new single and is accompanied by this impressive video. The boys are defnite winners in the video department for 2012 so far. As original and captivating as the video for "Seraphim" back in April. Oh and there's a brand new b-side too "Witches of Agnesi" oh the joy!

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "NIGHT & DAY" - Emotion II Emotion feat. Ryann /// "SECRET CITY" - Alexis Blair Penney

Last week I have received a cd edition of E C S T A S Y's first ever compilation (yes call me old-fashioned darling but I still much prefer the physical copies) and let me tell you no other collection of tunes got me so excited since "Été D'amour" back in 2005. I have been admiring the founders of E C S T A S Y - the wondrous Miracles Club for two years at this stage, it's one of their exquisite tracks "The Wheel" that announced the release of this vibrant mix of all shapes and colours of underground house music. The label is responsible for three out of top 20 best tracks in 2011 in my annual countdown, Alexis Blair Penney's "Lonely Sea", The Miracles Club's "I Can't Help It" and Finesse's "Elevate". This brand new delicious mélange of '15 new tracks from our friends and collaborators across the globe' as they state on their blog, goes down a total treat. Here are two of my favourites "Secret City" from the flamboyant Alexis Blair Penney and "Night & Day" from Emotion II Emotion a collaboration between Rafael Fauria (The ubiquitous Miracles Club again) and Avalon Kalin (Finesse). The compilation is out now via iTunes, Beatport and Juno. Put on your dancing shoes baby!

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "INSPECTOR NORSE" - Todd Terje /// "FATE" [Todd Terje Re-Edit] - Chaka Khan

Todd Terje's eponymous dancefloor anthem and one of this year's best tracks "Inspector Norse" finally gets a video treatment. 5 months since its initial release, better late than never I suppose. Pure magic of a tune! As a bonus Mr Terje's discolicious re-edit of Chaka Khan's magnificent "Fate".  Music sounds better with Todd Terje!

CHOON OF THE DAY: "EARTHQUAKE" - SSION

I have always had a penchant for Cody Critcheloe and his ultra-super-hyper-flamboyant take on pop music by the fabulous SSION. Their latest album "Bent" which dropped last year via their website, will now deservedly receive a proper global release on 18th September. I have already claimed it one of the best records of 2011 here! Following "My Love Grows In The Dark" we're now treated to a second video announcing the arrival of "Bent". Enjoy!

SHREM'S FUTURE ANTHEMS: "INFINITY" - Infinity Ink

Somewhere between the fabulous tunes of recent months by Azari & III, Voxels, Art Department and Hot Natured lies this delicious piece of nu house. Its irresistible aura of a dancefloor anthem about to happen is truly inviting.

SHREM'S GUILTIEST OF PLEASURES... VOL. 30: "DO NOT DISTURB" + "MORE THAN PHYSICAL" - Bananarama

When I was a little nerd, back in the primary school, Bananarama were my very first idols. 30 years since the release of their first album the female pop record breakers from UK bring out a complete DVD collection (35 videos!) which will accompany their ultimate collection "30 years of Bananarama". Not that I wouldn't have all of their albums already in expanded editions, but the DVD release makes me feel 20 years younger. Pure nostalgia, pure guilty pleasure, pure pop gems, pure fun! These two less popular singles were always my favourite:

SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS... "THIS TIME" - Lovebirds feat. Novika

For five solid years, back in my university days, I'd never miss any of the "Radio Lazy Sunday" shows hosted by a girl named Novika. Years later, the very same girl established herself in Poland as a very well known dj, vocalist, producer and a record label owner. On top of all that she also finds time to feature on numerous dance projects, also internationally. The result of her joint effort with German house project Lovebirds comes in a shape of a fabulously summery and instantly haunting 'This Time".

SHREM'S CLUB BIZARRE PRESENTS: "SUGARDADDY" - Jimi Tenor

I'm turning back the clock 15 years this evening. It's the year 1997. We're in Helsinki, Finland. One of the most innovative Scandinavian musicians, the wizard of electronica and jazz, Mr Jimi Tenor has just released one of his most accomplished singles to date, the brazen "Sugardaddy". Musical eccentricity at its most genuine.

SHREM'S INSTITUTE OF LOST CLASSICS: "Ain't No Time Fa Nothing" - The Futures

This 1978 soul single is a genuine treasure and a precious bridge between soul, funk and disco. This forgotten track was a breath of fresh air back then and it aged pretty gracefully, quite of a production going on there for a 34 year old record!

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE" "MURDEROUS" - Mosca /// "BRING ME CLOSER" - Richard Davis

Two excellent deep house tracks. The first one comes from the multi-versatile dance producer Mosca who has just announced his fresh "Eva Mendes" EP to be released soon. "Murderous" sounds like the winner out of the whole set at the first listen. Following this soulful piece of deep house we have a lost classic of the genre, a 2005 string-laden underground masterpiece which somehow remains undiscovered by a wider audience to this day.

SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS... "TAKE ME HIGH (Bart B More Remix)" - Cubic Zirconia + "REMEMBER" - Kingdom feat. Tiombe Lockheart

I've got two fierce and wonderfully twisted dancefloor oddities for you this evening. Both tunes are graced with the haunting vocals of Miss Tiombe Lockheart and both tracks appear here for the very first time despite a rather heavy rotation on my iTunes for the past few months. I first shared "Take Me High" in its original version back in the summer 2011. Bart B More provides this dirrrrty house remix of the tune aptly accompanied by the flashy video. And there's no stopping there, we continue with Cubic Zirconia's singer guest appearance on Kingdom's trance-inducing "Remember". Such a talented lady!

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "HIDEAWAY" /// "PRECOGNITION (Sunset Mix)" - Steed Lord

Exciting times ahead for Steed Lord and their fans! As the Icelandic trio is in the studio recording their follow-up to the eponymous electro explosion that was "Heart II Heart", they generously give away more and more teasers from their 3rd LP. Miss Kali and the boys completely reinvented De Lacy's glorious 1994 club anthem "Hideaway" a couple of months ago, now the cover received a video treatment consisting of clips from Steed Lord's magnetising live performances. The video comes right on time to push the promotion for the remixes of "Precognition" - one of their most accomplished songs to date. Check out their very own 'summery' version of the track below. The whole EP is out now! On top of all that, I might have some additional exclusive treats for you all SL devotees soon... Just watch this space.

SHREM'S WORLDLY DELIGHTS: "Elhem - 1" - Diaspora feat. Amina Annabi

I have been grooving to this vibrant mélange of world beats for months last year and somehow never had a chance to share it with all of you here. It is a rare mixture of Egyptian and Jamaican sounds with a rather wondrous vocal performance from Tunisian legend Amina Annabi. You can find another 3 tracks featuring Miss Amina on Diaspora's "A Jamaican in Cairo" album via Green Queen Music. A burst of pure oriental beauty in a song.
