CHOON OF THE DAY: "RUNNING BACK TO YOU" - Perseus

This is such a summer treat! The sampling wizard Perseus, built this little nu disco masterpiece around the extracts from Ashanti's 2003 mega-hit "Foolish". And it all came together so perfectly one could imagine those vocals were never previously used at all. Sunny vibes!

SHREM'S LIST OBSESSION: Top 10 Favourite Madonna Tour Performances

What other list could I compile on a day before Madonna opens her 9th world tour in Tel Aviv? Following countless of similar rankings all over Internet, including the smashing selection by HardCandyMusic, here's my very subjective collection of all my favourite tour performances by La Ciccone. Here they are:

10 "FROZEN" ("Drowned World Tour", 2001)

09 "LIVE TO TELL" ("Confessions Tour", 2006)

08 "INTO THE GROOVE" ("The Virgin Tour", 1985)

07 "LIKE A VIRGIN" ("Blond Ambition Tour", 1990)

06 "FUTURE LOVERS" ("Confessions Tour", 2006)

05 "EXPRESS YOURSELF" ("Blond Ambition Tour", 1990)

04 "JUSTIFY MY LOVE" ("The Girlie Show", 1993)

03 "EROTICA/YOU THRILL ME" ("Confessions Tour", 2006)

02 "VOGUE" ("Blond Ambition Tour", 1990)

01 "CAUSING A COMMOTION" ("Who's That Girl Tour", 1987)

CHOON OF THE DAY: "HOW CAN I LIVE WITHOUT YOU (MAKE IT RIGHT)" - Hervé feat. Ronika

Well this sounds like some of those earlu 90's rave anthems that used to effortlessly score a spot on UK top 40. Gone are the days but this oldskool flavoured single by Hervé featuring Miss Ronika on vocals did put a huge smile on my face today. Put your hands up in the air!

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "THE WHEEL" - The Miracles Club /// "TELL ME WHEN THE FEVER ENDED" - Electribe 101

There is 23 years between those two tracks and a wonderful symbiosis of house beats, anthemic melodies and flamboyant aura of the underground dance scene. The Miracles Club, my most cherished of all current American dance acts, returns with the phenomenal "The Wheel" announcing the arrival of their first compilation "Ecstasy" featuring some of the other darlings of house I have been praising here a lot as well - Discodromo, Alexis Blair Penney or Emotion II Emotion. The track's early 90's atmosphere reminded me of some of the work by Electribe 101. "Tell Me When The Fever Ended" was the Birmingham collective's most accomplished single in my opinion. Here it is in its full glory with Billie Ray Martin's sensational vocal performance.

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "BACARDI & COLA" /// "DREAM OF PARADISE (Jadoo Remix)" [with Ajello] - Hard Ton

The ever so busy being busy Hard Ton has even more nu disco tricks up his XXL sleeves! Literally days after I was privileged to receive his flamboyant "Perfect Party Playlist" submitted exclusively for my blog, we are treated to more surprises from this unstoppable nu italo disco machine! The video for the so far unreleased and immediately dancefloor ready "Bacardi & Cola" was created by the cult Piepke. This week also sees the release of Hard Ton's second collaboration with Ajello - "Dream Of Paradise", following last year's monster of an anthem "Chocolate Black Leather" - top 5 of the best tunes in 2011! Of all the mixes Jadoo's disco divine treatment seems the most fun! All Hail to the XXL disco diva of the XXI Century!

SHREM'S FUTURE ANTHEMS: "GOLDEN ERA" - David Morales feat. Róisín Murphy +

Irish chanteuse and the queen of cool Róisín Murphy, one of my biggest music idols out there, is back with an oldskool flavoured house anthem coming from the legendary David Morales' brand new album. We'll all be grooving to it this summer.

KEEP DA FLAVA OF DA OLDSKOOL: "DOWN TO EARTH" + "MONIE IN THE MIDDLE" - Monie Love

It's the weather for some oldskool flavour à la Monie Love! I've always been an admirer of her talent, such a pity she only recorded two albums. Pretty much any given tune from either of the albums still makes me wanna hit the dancefloor instantly.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "MOVE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION" - Gossip [Video Premiere] + Classixx Remix

Just as much as I wasn't convinced about Gossip's first single from their 5th album "Joyful Noise" - "Perfect World" I am really digging the 2nd tune "Move In The Right Direction" both visually and sonically. It might be their most commercial single to date, but its unquestionable Abba-meets-Kylie atmosphere of pure pop perfection is inescapable.

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "SUNSHINE" /// "HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN" [Eurythmics Cover] - Little Dragon

The exquisite Miss Yukimi Nagano and Little Dragon with two delicious exclusives! Previously unavailable "Sunshine" stays solid among the band's most electrifying tracks to date. And I can't even find appropriate words to describe their astonishing version of Eurythmics "Here Comes the Rain Again"... Seriously one of the most talented bands in the world right now!

+ Juicy Bonus Track, Little Dragon goes Club Classics with this jolly rendition of Crystal Waters' number 1 single:

SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS... "MARATHON RUNNER (Alkaline Edit)" - Aural Exciters

What a fabulous re-edit of this undergound mutant disco anthem from 1979! I'm all over "20 Mutant Disco Uptown Edits" compilation which has just dropped via ZE Records. It's modern vintage baby!

And here's the original version:

SHREM'S BIGGIES BUT GOODIES BASKET: "NIGHT & DAY" - Hot Chip [Video Premiere + 2Bears Remix]

This must be one of Hot  Chip's hottest singles to date! And with this fantastically bizarre video it sure will join the likes of "I Feel Better", "Over & Over" and "Ready For The Floor" on the endless list of the band's cult singles. I'm in awe big time!

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "YOUR LOVE AIN'T FAIR" - Simian Mobile Disco /// "JOHNNY BELINDA (White Arrows Remix)" - Active Child

Two magnificent pieces of electronica caught my attention this week. While listening to them on repeat last weekend I realised they sound quite delightful one next to another. So here's the wizards of Simian Mobile Disco from their eponymous new LP "Unpatterns" followed by Active Child's "Johnny Belinda" in a sumptuous remix treatment from White Arrows.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "HURRICANE" - MS MR

Every now and then I come across a song which gives me a strange feeling of being part of something important about to happen... I felt similar vibes when I heard Lana Del Rey's ubiquitous "Video Game" and Chairlift's "Amanaemonesia" for the very first time... I can't quite explain that feeling, it is an odd mix of anxiety and exhilaration, but it just happened again when I heard MS MR's mysterious "Hurricane"... A fascinatingly alluring piece of music, generously given away for free on the band's website. Listen, enjoy and spread the word, this tune might quite possibly become massive!!!

SHREM'S INSTITUTE OF LOST CLASSICS: "HERE'S TO YOU" - Skyy

Skyy were a prominent disco collective based in New York and signed by the famous Salsoul Records. "Here's To You", in spite of its rather moderate chart performance, was the band's most enthralling song in their funky catalogue.

And here comes a scrumptious dessert for you, Larry Levan's space disco re-edit of Skyy's 1979 discolicious debut single "First Time Around":

SHREM'S WORLDLY DELIGHTS: "Agita"- Gilles Peterson's Havana Cultura Band feat. Osdalgía & El Micha

I have always had faith in Mr Gilles Peterson's taste in music. The dj, the producer, the musician, the music selector and labels owner, he just always gets it right. One of his latest projects, "Havana Cultura: The Search Continues", his exploration into the Cuban musical underground, is a pure treat and a vibrant feats for all the global beats lovers. This particular cumbia-meets-salsa piece stole my heart instantly.

SHREM'S BIGGIES BUT GOODIES BASKET... "MOVE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION" - Gossip

First we received Flight Facilities ultra-catchy number 1 summer anthem in the making "With You" and now Beth Ditto & co follow with one of the most irresistible pop melodies released so far in 2012. "Move In The Right Direction" comes as a second single from their freshly released 5th studio album "A Joyful Noise". Perhaps the most pop orientated offer from the American trio is hugely impressive with its perfect melodies and slick production, even if it lacks a bit of the old punk grittiness. No wonder though as La Ditto claims she spent the entire year exploring Abba's catalogue. File this tune under 'Pure Pop Perfection'.

SHREM'S FUTURE ANTHEMS: "WITH YOU" - Flight Facilities feat. Grovesnor

I think we can officially mark the arrival of the very first major summertime anthem in 2012 with Flight Facilities' idyllic "With You"!  Every next tune by this Australian dance crew tends to be even better than the previous releases so this joyful piece featuring Grovesnor shapes with no surprises to be their finest single yet. Dreamy...

SHREM'S EXCLUSIVE: PERFECT PARTY PLAYLIST VOL. 4 by Hard Ton

I am completely over the moon to receive another exclusive party playlist, this time around all the way from sunny Italia. I have been continuously and stubbornly praising and supporting Hard Ton for the past two years, easily one of the most brazen, most flamboyant and artistically most generous acts on the current global dance scene. Grazie di cuore for your discolicious contribution!

BIO:
As Hard Ton states on his Facebook page he is "a Fierce, Flamboyant, Sexy Bear Disco Queen". The rest of his online biography is so wittily written I'd rather just quote it than try to re-vamp it. "Hard Ton is the XXL disco diva of the XXI Century! His Sylvester styled falsettos conjure up the smoky, poppers-fuelled dancefloors of Hi-NRG mixed with a completely contemporary sound of accelerated beats  and screaming acid basslines. Using, exclusively, analogue and vintage gear from the 303, 606, 707, Oberheim DMX, Korg Monopoly, MS20, Prophet V5, the list goes on and is a calling card to any gear-nerd. But the music never becomes stiff or contrived, in fact it always remains fun, as expected when you play with equipment that lives and dies by its own unpredictable rules. With his 150kg, Hard Ton is a Giorgio Moroder low-fat grooves model meeting a heavyweight Chicago  Trax queen machine." Also sometimes described as "Dis-Grace Jones", Hard Ton caught my attention 2 years ago with the release of his Italo Disco redefining EP "Selfish". It's been a non-stop queer electro festival of exuberant underground dancefloor anthems, outrageous videos, saucy live performances and incalculable guest appearances ever since.

PERFECT PARTY PLAYLIST by Hard Ton:

1. Eight Wonder "I'm Not Scared (10")" - I love the 80's, who says that the 80's were just about flamboyant looks and cheesy tunes, they just don't know how to have fun.

2. Phyllis Nelson "I Like You" - I like "I Like You" a lot! It's pure fun and happiness.

3. Dimitri From Paris, Dj Rocca feat. Hard Ton "Pretty Baby" - It was such a pleasure and honour to collaborate with Dimitri and Rocca that I had to mention this! Check the mash-up video that we recently did:

4. Luomo "The Present Lover" - To me Luomo is one of the best underground producers of the last decade, his classy uncoventional touch shows that dance music still has got something to say.

5. Lipps Inc. "How Long" - A classic disco anthem, the ideal track to flirt with someone on the dancefloor.

6. Martha Wash & Izora Armstead "Got The Feeling" - Two tons of fun and two incredible voices for a hypercaloric track. That's the way i like it.

7. Technotronic "Pump Up The Jam" -  I don't care if it's tacky, I just can't keep my feet on the ground when i listen to it.

8. Dj Rolando a.k.a. The Aztec Mystic "Jaguar" - A classic, a masterpiece, to be danced till the very last beat.

9. Discodromo feat. Hard Ton "Build a House (Tensnake Remix)" - No, it's not an ego issue, it's just that this remix always sets the dancefloor on fire. You don't believe me? Try it out!

10. Janet Jackson "If (Brothers in Rhythm House Mix)" - "If i was your girl, oh the things i'd do to you..." Well if i was a girl, i'd buy me a Chanel, size XXXXL, merci!

CHOONS OF THE DAY: "NIGHTMUSIC" - Grimes feat. Majical Cloudz + "GENESIS" [Live @ Jools Holland]

I am absolutely thrilled to see Miss Grimes releasing a brand new video to one of my most beloved moments on her mesmerising LP "Visions".  Such a unique talent, 2012 sort of belongs to her so far in my music books. I am continuously impressed with this girl. Such a rare talent!

SHREM'S CLUB BIZARRE PRESENTS: "KILL ME" - The Golden Filter + Remixes

The Golden Filter's soporific "Kill Me" somehow slipped through my radar despite of its powerful video and a set of absolutely amazing remixes. The following two renditions of the track by the Danish/Iranian duo Rosemary and Belgian Fusty Delights have just found a solid spot among the best mixes I heard this year so far. It's a sonic feast of sublime, sombre and eerily beautiful soundscapes. I am rather intrigued to see the the NYC duo perform at this year's Lovebox Festival in London.

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "TOO SHY" - Jimmy Edgar /// "I LOVE YOU" - Yello

The opening track from Jimmy Edgar's magnetising new album "Majenta" reminded me slightly of some Yello's early 1980's experimental excursions into electronic sounds.  Here's the delectable "Too Shy" back-2-back with the Swiss Pioneers of new wave and their 1983 underground club hit "I Love You".

CHOON OF THE DAY: "Robocops and Flipflops" - Spektrum + Remixes

Not sure how I discovered Spektrum's latest video only now! You can always count on Miss Lola Olafisoye & co to deliver a picant mosaic of electro, punk and disco. I'd like to treat this as a good sign for all those who are eager to see Spektrum's brand new album being released in 2012. I dig "Robocops & Flipflops" a lot! Check out Thomas Gandey's dancefloor ready mix of the tune below.
